I have notifications turned off for this app and it has no permissions. But this app still shows notifications and unlike other apps that do show them, when allowed, they go away on their own or if you tap the screen they go away. Not Newsbreak, this app pops up and stays there until you click the "X". It shouldn't even be popping up at all with the options turned off. The app doesn't even have the push notification option turned on inside the app either. Seems to be a little too intrusive...
The notifications on this app are ridiculous! I turned them off through the app and through my phone's settings and they still come through with an image that takes up my whole screen, even when my phone is on "do not disturb". I wrote into customer support about it and never heard back. I've now deleted the app after being woken up by another notification early in the morning when not feeling well and very much needing the rest. Get it together! No one needs this kind of hassle.
Kind of like the quantity of local news but the notifications are overwhelming. I wish it would just send one notification and then let me scroll through all the updates after I click on it. Also, the read/unread function doesn't work well. If I read an article from a notification it does not update the list within the app. Very annoying and wastes my time clicking on articles I have already read.
This app has SO MANY ADS! This app also gives you notifications that will leave your phone on until you dismiss them. I was out and had a full battery. I checked my phone and it was down to 15 percent because of a notification that left my phone on. If I had an emergency or something, I wouldn't have been able to call anyone because of the stupid feature. This app does not care about your safety.
So Close. Love the UI and social element. NB does a great job at striking a balance between local, national, and international news. My ONLY complaints are 1) Many external news links lead to paywall sources or are clickbate 2) All notifs off and yet NB still emails me headliners 3) The grotesque ads all throughout the app. news sites are infected w/chumbox ads that appear below the story. But these gross images are all throughout the articles; making for an UNPLEASANT user experience.
I've been using this app for a while. I like the assortment of articles from local to national to international. However there are so many ads it's sometimes hard to find the actual article. I also don't like that half the time most of the pictures are truncated and require finding an original article to see everything. It's lovely viewing a damaged ship when you can only see the mast because it doesn't show the whole picture. Also I get a ton of notifications - I've tried adjusting but no avail
I use this app all the time, at least daily. I like the abundance of local, national, and international news, I like that people can comment. What I loathe about it is that I constantly have to resign in, even multiple times a day, and every time, it signs me up for notifications and emails again. I get enough NewsBreak through the app, I don't want emails and notifications! This is so bothersome, I'm going to have to delete. Please fix automatic subscriptions & constant sign outs.
So I will be uninstalling this app. I've had it for a while now, however, I've noticed 2 things. First, is that I receive emails for news stories (I successfully turned notifications off) and when I click to go to a story I am BOMBARDED with ADS! It is too much! Secondly, I believe that this app contributes to my phone's battery drainage. A real shame because I like this app. Maybe I'll return to it one day when they get control of the overly aggressive ads. As for the battery issue, who knows?
Tooooo many ads interrupting what I'm reading (yes you read it right! In the middle of reading an article an ad will pop-up and when you click out of the ad the entire article is gone. good luck trying to refind it again!) Theres ads WITHIN the article (you have to read around it) And then there's pop-ups that will completely Replace the article you were reading! This is why I only gave it 2 Stars: It's got great info, but you can't get to it!
This app keeps sending me lock screen notifications even though I have notifications turned off. I'm deleting the app because it apparently is over-riding my notification preferences. If you want lock screen notifications, this app has a good variety of news sources. but I'd be concerned about what other settings it over-rides.
I am frustrated with two things in the Newsbreak app. First, the app doesn't have the capability to view articles on the web, unlike other news apps such as Google News and Flipboard. Second, I am concerned about the continued display of video ads, such as Temu ads and ads from other entities. I have repeatedly marked these ads as "inappropriate" through the feedback function, but they continue to appear. This is frustrating and disruptive, and it made me quit using the Newsbreak app!!
More ads than news. I turned notifications off but the app still sends them. They leave ur screen ON until u dismiss them, which kills your battery. Plus, once I fell asleep while reading an article and since there was an ad on the screen (that popped up after I fallen asleep) my phone's 5 min timer of inactivity did not turn off as it thought I was watching 2 hours of ads. So my phone stayed on for 2 hours while I dozed off, draining my battery. How dumb.
This app knows a lot. The timing of ads and articles has a funny way of popping up on my feed. Took a pic of something and texted it to a buddy. I later open the app and ads are popping up related to the pic. Even conversations I have with people somehow shows related articles soon after. The coincidences are a little too spot on. Yes I've checked my settings and shut all my permissions and access off. Just saying......
NewsBreak started categorizing news notifications as "conversations" on Android. This makes it impossible for me to organize the notifications coming through my phone. Pressing "this is not a conversation" does not fix the problem because the next notification is programmed to be a new conversation. I really do appreciate this app but it's not worth the stong arming they are doing to get your attention. Please fix!
Pretty good app. Needs the ability to type multiple paragraphs once you hit send it gets rid of the space and gives you one big block. Also, if you tap the wrong key, your entire post gets a list, and you have to retype it. Would also like to post links for debating purposes. Other than that, it's a good app that could use a few things to make it great. Edit to add: It would be great if we could have a bias rating on the news sources! You should add a media bias rating to all articles.
This app is not allowed to send me notifications and yet every morning around 8 the app has started popping up through my phone and keep buzzing until I snooze it asking me if I want to keep receiving notifications. I pushed snooze and yet every morning, they keep coming. I don't know how to stop this unless I delete the app because I already have the send notifications disabled. I have now deleted the app because it will not stop sending me notifications no matter what I do. This is ridiculous
I like this app over the others because of the ability see and make comments. It gives me an idea of the world is reacting. Have emailed customer service about the loud commercials that suddenly pop up 10x on one page and can't be muted, waking my baby up middle of the night, but they obviously don't care. When I lived where there was limited cell service the many advertisements bogged it down so things wouldn't barely work. I get they need to sell advertising but it's overdone and obnoxious.
Notifications continuously pop up even with the option for notifications turned off. Alerts come in for locations nowhere near the only location I have in my profile. Frustrating experience. Not even sure how I "signed up" for the app since my supposed user name is nothing that I would have selected for myself.
A common problem with news apps is the compulsive need to show large photos with every topic - so at most we can see 2 topics on the screen at once and have to mega-scroll to get through the list. This is not of value especially as the token photo rarely ties directly to the topic, it is just there to take up space. In this app the "trending" tab does a better job with 4 topics on a screen with just thumbnail pics. Sadly that is the only place with this view. Please consider a "compact" setting
I guess the news is good. If that news is helpful to you, I did not find it useful. I have no interest in any mail it filled my inbox up with. I spent hours sorting out my important mail, and I tried to reset and download another app to help fish through and uninstall the apps. NewsBreak kept installing, and their emails were in the hundreds every week. What a nightmare
